Sidoarjo, October 14, 2026 – Established in 1984, SMAN 1 Taman, Sidoarjo, East Java, faced the challenge of deteriorating parts of the building as the school aged. Holes in the classroom roofs even disrupted learning activities because rainwater entered. In 2025, the school received revitalization assistance in the form of repairs to the classroom roofs and a toilet package to provide a more comfortable learning environment for students.
A 12th-grade student, Alina Maulidya Aryanti, recounted her experience studying in a classroom with a leaking roof. When it rained, water seeped into the classroom, requiring students to clean the room before continuing their lessons.
"When I was in 11th grade in 2025, I was in a classroom with a roof that still had holes in it. So, when it rained, a lot of water would come into the classroom. Because of the flooding, learning would be interrupted because we had to clean the classroom first," he said.
After the repairs, the classrooms have improved and become more comfortable for learning. Alina stated that leaks that previously disrupted learning activities no longer occur in the renovated classrooms.
"Now the classroom I used before no longer has a hole in the roof, and there are no more leaks. So, my ninth-grade classmates who are studying now are truly comfortable," said Alina.
Alina hopes that the repaired facilities can be well maintained so that they continue to benefit future students.
The principal of SMAN 1 Taman, Dewi Nurmalasari, explained that the school, which was established on November 20, 1984, had previously experienced damage to several parts of the building. With revitalization assistance in 2025, the school received repairs to the classroom roofs and a toilet package consisting of four stalls.
"The impact on our school was significant. Originally, the school was damaged—unfortunately, the roof was already sagging. But after the renovation, the building became beautiful. The children now have a comfortable learning environment," Dewi said when met at SMAN 1 Taman, Sidoarjo, East Java (12/10).
She expressed her appreciation for the government's support through the revitalization of educational institutions. According to Dewi, improving educational facilities is crucial for schools to provide better educational services to students.
"The assistance with the revitalization of educational units has been very beneficial for us. The children have also become comfortable learning. God willing, we will be ready to provide the best service for our students," he said.
Javas Parama Wirasana, an 11th-grade student, also felt the impact of the improved facilities. He noted that his current classroom feels more spacious, tidy, and has better lighting than his previous one. This makes learning more comfortable.
"When I was in 11th grade and occupied this classroom, my friends and I were more focused in learning and easily absorbed the material because the lighting in this new classroom was brighter," said Javas.
He hopes that improvements to educational facilities can be continued in classrooms and other school facilities so that more students and teachers can experience a comfortable learning environment.
"My hope is that in the future, other classes will also be revitalized, so that the material presented by the teachers will be easier to absorb and more comfortable to learn," he said.
A comfortable learning environment is one of the key factors that helps students engage better in learning. With the improved classroom conditions, the SMAN 1 Taman community hopes that learning activities will be more optimal and that students will be more motivated to develop their potential and achieve.
