The use of IFP in PAUD must be balanced with play and direct interaction.

Yogyakarta, October 15, 2026 — Deputy Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Wamendikdasmen) Fajar Riza Ul Haq, is promoting the use of Interactive Flat Panels (IFP)/Interactive Digital Boards (PID) in early childhood learning, while still considering the characteristics and developmental needs of students. The use of technology in Early Childhood Education (PAUD) units needs to be integrated with play, outdoor activities, and direct interaction between children.

"I do suggest that, despite the PID, learning activities in this kindergarten shouldn't be entirely digital, but should also be combined with outdoor activities. This way, children still have physical interaction and play activities, allowing them to interact better with their peers," Fajar said after reviewing the use of IFP in one of the classes at the IT Mekar Insani Kindergarten in Yogyakarta on Thursday (10/15).

This visit was part of the government's efforts to ensure the effective implementation of President Prabowo Subianto's priority programs and to identify challenges in the field for evaluation. Fajar emphasized that PID can be a tool to support more interactive learning. Therefore, educators need to use it appropriately so that technology supports the learning process without displacing the direct learning experiences that early childhood needs.

The principal of IT Mekar Insani Kindergarten, Zenny Savitri, explained that the school received the PID in mid-2025 and has been utilizing it as a thematic learning medium. One example of using PID is introducing body parts through interactive pictures and songs. " Thank God , it's been very beneficial for our learning. The children are more engaged when the material is presented using PID," she said.

However, the school still limits the duration of device use. Teachers typically use the PID for about 15 minutes to deliver material, then continue the lesson through direct interaction with the children. "Children need concrete experiences. So, after using the PID, we continue to interact directly with them to make the material easier to understand," he explained.

The school hopes the government can expand the distribution of PID to other institutions under the same management, including playgroups and daycare centers. This way, the use of learning technology can reach more children according to their needs and developmental stage.*** (Writer: Denty/Editor: Destya, Art/Photographer: Ikram)
