Jakarta, August 11, 2026 — The spirit of building quality education is not only realized through educational policies and programs. Within the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), this spirit is also fostered through a culture of healthy living, togetherness, and sportsmanship among its employees. This message emerged when 896 employees participated in a series of competitions commemorating the 81st Anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia's Independence on Tuesday (August 11).
Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti stated that the event served as a moment to celebrate independence and strengthen social ties within the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen). He stated that this togetherness is part of the efforts of all employees to carry out their duties in realizing quality education for all.
"The purpose of this competition is to celebrate Indonesia's independence and to foster camaraderie and social relations among the entire Kemendikbud family. Therefore, the spirit is one of togetherness, the spirit of which is that we must all work together to realize the ideals of our heroes and fulfill our independence, in accordance with our mandate (namely) to provide quality education for all in order to educate the nation," he said.
The four-day series of events kicked off with the Great Indonesian Children's Healthy Gymnastics, followed by various sports and arts competitions. Eleven sports were contested, including Great Indonesian Children's Gymnastics, badminton, table tennis, tennis, volleyball, futsal, chess, fishing, e-sports, poetry reading, and stand-up comedy .
Meanwhile, the Secretary General of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Suharti, stated that the diversity of branches also opened up opportunities for participation for employees with diverse interests and backgrounds. Participants came from eight work units, including both civil servants and non-civil servants.
"This composition illustrates that we're not just competing in sports, but also in the arts, and of course, to gauge interest. This participation space is open to all employees, and they are given the opportunity to compete from eight work units at the Ministry of Education and Culture," he said.
For the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, a healthy lifestyle and sportsmanship are values relevant to the development of an educational ecosystem. A healthy and collaborative work environment is expected to support employees in carrying out their educational service duties.
Therefore, the series of competitions should not be viewed as a means of achieving victory. The Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education emphasized the importance of the values developed through these activities.
"The passion, of course, isn't about who wins, but rather about building a healthy lifestyle and fostering camaraderie among all of us at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education. Good luck competing, have fun, and celebrate Indonesia's 81st Independence Day. Independence!" said the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, officially opening the series of competitions.
Suharti added that the activity was designed to avoid disrupting official duties. She believes that joint activities amidst busy work schedules are expected to strengthen employee fitness, togetherness, and sportsmanship.
"The committee has carefully planned the schedule so that the competition will not interfere with official services and duties. Therefore, this competition is not a vacation, but a break from work. We hope that this series of competitions will foster not only fitness and a healthy lifestyle, but also togetherness and sportsmanship among all Ministry of Education and Culture employees," concluded Secretary General Suharti.
This enthusiasm is part of the effort to build a healthy and collaborative work environment to support the implementation of the Ministry of Education and Culture's duties in providing quality education for all.*** (Author: Destya/Photographer: Morecka, Ikram)
