Pontianak, October 18, 2026 — The 2026 Education Unit Revitalization Program reached 943 schools in West Kalimantan with a budget of Rp846.68 billion. To ensure its implementation meets the needs of educational units, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) Abdul Mu'ti directly reviewed the revitalization process at SMAN 7 Pontianak and SD Negeri 39 Sungai Raya, Kubu Raya Regency, on Saturday (10/17). This program is aimed at providing safer, more comfortable, and more suitable learning facilities for students and teachers.
"We are targeting the revitalization of thousands of educational institutions this year as a manifestation of President Prabowo Subianto's commitment to improving the quality of education for the nation's children throughout Indonesia," said Minister Mu'ti.
In Pontianak City, the 2026 revitalization program covered 46 schools with a total budget of Rp38.35 billion. The program also involved 585 local workers. One of the schools receiving this assistance was SMAN 7 Pontianak, which required improvements to several facilities to support safe and comfortable learning.
The principal of SMAN 7 Pontianak, Ibrahim, stated that the school, which was established in 1973, had never received a revitalization program. Several facilities, including the computer lab, language lab, and classrooms, were damaged and required immediate attention for the safety of the school community. "Therefore, we prioritize emergencies first, for the sake of learning comfort and safety," Ibrahim said. In 2026, SMAN 7 Pontianak received a revitalization grant of Rp1.05 billion for repairs to the computer lab, language lab, and classrooms. These repairs are expected to help the school meet its need for more appropriate learning facilities.
The limited availability of suitable classrooms also impacts the school's learning arrangements. For the past two years, SMAN 7 Pontianak has implemented two sessions, morning and afternoon, to accommodate the needs of the student groups.
Reza Pratama, Vice Principal for Facilities and Infrastructure at SMAN 7 Pontianak, stated that adequate facilities and infrastructure are needed to support learning activities and provide students with opportunities to learn better. "We really need help with this development, because when we have good infrastructure and facilities, we can go further," Reza said.
Aida Nafisa Aristantio, a 12th-grade student at SMAN 7 Pontianak, also expressed her hope that the school facilities would be more suitable. She hopes the revitalization process will be completed soon so that teachers and students can use the school facilities more comfortably. "We hope the revitalization of this building can be completed soon so that teachers can have their own staff room again and students can study normally," Aida said.
The need for facility improvements is also a concern at SD Negeri 39 Sungai Raya in Kubu Raya Regency. In 2026, the school received Rp2.2 billion in revitalization assistance for classroom rehabilitation and the construction of new ones.
Aqila Viandra, a 6th-grade student at Sungai Raya State Elementary School 39, enthusiastically welcomed the planned construction of a new classroom at her school. She hopes the facility will make learning more enjoyable. "Wow, I'm so happy, because the new room is also new. It makes me happier and more enthusiastic," said Aqila.
Nationally, the government is targeting the revitalization of 71,744 educational institutions by 2026. By 2025, 16,167 schools had received revitalization programs. The government continues to encourage improvements to educational facilities and infrastructure to ensure more schools have adequate facilities to support teaching and learning activities.
Through the revitalization program, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education strives to support the provision of a safe and comfortable learning environment for students and to assist schools in meeting their educational needs. "Let's remain enthusiastic and dedicated to educating the nation, ensuring that every Indonesian child receives adequate and high-quality learning facilities," the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education urged.
