Jakarta, October 1, 2026 — Exciting works steeped in tradition are back at the Kriyanusa 2026 exhibition. One of them is the work of participants in the Entrepreneurship Skills Education Program (PKW), a collaboration between the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) and the National Crafts Council (Dekranas). Kriyanusa 2026 will take place from September 26 to 30, 2026, at the Jakarta International Convention Center (JICC).
Carrying the theme "Sustainable Craft Creation, Global Craftsmen", Kriyanusa 2026 is a space to introduce the richness of Indonesian crafts while also demonstrating how the process of learning, creating, and entrepreneurship can open up opportunities and have an impact on the progress of society.
Yaya Sutarya, Director of Courses and Training at the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education, stated that the Entrepreneurship Skills Education program is aimed at unschooled, dropout, and special needs children under the age of 25. They are provided with skills to become entrepreneurs. The PKW program is designed in collaboration with MSMEs, capital institutions, and parties involved in economics and marketing.
"We can ensure that we provide special skills to out-of-school children through entrepreneurship. Therefore, there's a process for how this PKW program will collaborate with Dekranas," said Yaya.
From 2020 to 2026, the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education, along with the National Crafts Department (Dekranas) and the Regional Crafts Department (Dekranasda), trained approximately 6,156 PKW participants. Among these graduates, some have started businesses, opened branches, employed more than 20 workers, and even generated substantial monthly turnover.
"So, we hope that with this activity, other Dekranas can be encouraged to participate in the program," Yaya continued.
At this event, visitors can see a variety of woven works and derivative products from nine Dekranasda (Regional Crafts Association) recipients of the PKW program: Jambi Province, Metro City, Tasikmalaya Regency, West Aceh, West Manggarai, Lamongan, Jepara, West Sumba, and Ogan Ilir. Each work showcases the richness of local traditions and wisdom, developed into value-added creative products.
Deputy Chairperson of the Tasikmalaya Regency Dekranasda, Khifayati Nursetiana, admitted that Tasikmalaya Regency had received two opportunities to participate in the PKW, namely in 2025 and 2026. The training provided was batik and weaving.
"We've been eagerly awaiting this PKW program, because when artisans or MSMEs are empowered, we truly utilize their human resources," he said.
According to Khifayati, training also needs to be tailored to the characteristics of young people. She cited the example of training in Tasikmalaya Regency, which provided participants with the opportunity to broadcast live via TikTok during the training. This approach was one way to keep participants engaged and to gather feedback from the community.
"Dekranasda hopes that today's youth can continue to become pioneers or forerunners for the continued advancement of handicrafts," he said.
Uci Monica, an alumna of the 2022 Weaving Entrepreneurship Skills Education Program, introduced Ogan Ilir's traditional fabrics with the "Tujur" and "Padi Pegagan" motifs. Uci admitted that she had just learned to weave through the PKW program. She had no prior experience in weaving, but became interested in learning through the program.
"I wanted to acquire skills relevant to my life. Participating in PKW with friends my age was fun. I also saw real job opportunities," he concluded.
The Ministry of Education and Culture's exhibition booth also featured a weaving demonstration by alumni of the 2026 PKW Program from Ogan Ilir. Visitors could witness the process of making gebeng, a traditional Ogan Ilir woven fabric, and experience weaving firsthand. Furthermore, an inspiring talk show discussed efforts to preserve textiles through the PKW program. This event provided an opportunity to explore further how skills education can help preserve cultural heritage while encouraging the emergence of a generation of artisans and creative entrepreneurs.
