Revitalization of Hundreds of Schools in Bali Has Economic Impact

Bali, October 2, 2026 – Collapsed classrooms and school buildings flooded twice a year were part of the history of two educational institutions in Bali before receiving revitalization assistance. Now, improved facilities and infrastructure have created more comfortable and safe learning spaces for both teachers and students.

During his visit, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, stated that the increased revitalization program in Bali is part of the government's efforts to improve the quality of educational facilities in various regions. "By 2025, there will be 188 schools, and by 2026, there will be a very significant increase in revitalization in Bali Province. There will be a total of 401 educational units," Abdul Mu'ti said on Friday (October 2).

Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti stated that the revitalization program also impacts local communities through job creation. "This demonstrates that educational unit revitalization not only increases educational units but also impacts job creation in the regions," he said.

Meanwhile, one of the changes felt by SD Negeri 15 Dangin Puri teacher, Ni Gusti Ayu Trisna Dewi, said that the revitalization brought real changes to the school where she has taught since 2019 and only received the revitalization program in 2026.

Trisna explained that before the revitalization, one of the classrooms on the third floor had collapsed due to the building's condition being affected by rain and wind. "Before the revitalization, a classroom on the third floor happened to collapse. It happened that the rain and wind might have caused leaks from above, causing the classroom to collapse," Trisna said in Denpasar.

Once the revitalization is complete, the classrooms and restrooms will be in much better condition. The classrooms will also appear tidier and cleaner, enhancing student comfort during learning. "After the revitalization, the collapsed classrooms are finally restored. So, the classrooms are also tidier and cleaner," he said.

According to Trisna, the change in the learning environment has also impacted student enthusiasm. They even took the initiative to decorate the classroom with their own creations. "The impact is definitely that the teaching and learning process will be better. The classroom also looks nicer and tidier. The students are also more enthusiastic about learning because their environment, the place where they conduct their teaching and learning, is much tidier and cleaner," she said.

This enthusiasm also encouraged Kanaya, a fifth-grade student at SDN 15 Dangin Puri, to express her growing enthusiasm for learning. "Our school has been renovated. We are very happy and excited to learn with our friends. Thank you, President Prabowo, and Minister Abdul Mu'ti," she said.

Established in 1975, floods twice a year

A different story comes from Indraprasta Kuta Kindergarten, located in Badung Regency, Bali. The school was established in 1975 and moved to its current location in 1989. Prior to the 2026 revitalization program, the school building had suffered various damages. A leaking roof, fragile walls, and frames damaged by termites and flooding presented challenges to teaching and learning.

Furthermore, the principal of Indraprasta Kuta Kindergarten, Wayan Leniasih, said the school building had long been in need of repair. "The condition of Indraprasta Kuta Kindergarten before receiving the 2026 revitalization program was very poor because it was built in 1975 and then moved here in 1989. Since then, our building has never been renovated, and the condition is often leaking roof, and the walls are also fragile," Wayan said when met in Badung Regency on Friday (2/10).

"For Indraprasta Kuta Kindergarten, 6 classrooms, 1 admin room, 1 toilet were renovated, and the playground that collapsed and was hit by flooding was renovated," Wayan added.

Wayan revealed that the twice-yearly flooding has worsened the school's condition. "The door frames are eaten away by termites after the floods. Twice a year, the floodwaters reach up to an adult's waist. So much damage has been done, and a solution hasn't been found yet," he said.

Wayan added that the changes at Indraprasta Kuta Kindergarten have motivated him to maintain the renovated facilities. "We promise to maintain and care for these renovated facilities, along with their furnishings. We all agree here, we are committed to maintaining and caring for them," he continued.*** (Writer: Ririn/Editor: Denty/Photographer: Destian)
