Jakarta, September 30, 2026 — Registration for the 2026 Academic Ability Test (TKA) for high school (SMA), vocational high school (SMK), Islamic high school (MA), and equivalent educational institutions officially closed on September 27, 2026. By the registration deadline, 4,215,314 students had registered from various educational institutions throughout Indonesia.
Of that number, 3,863,957 students have completed the registration process. This figure represents an increase compared to the 2025 TKA, which recorded 3,518,167 students, representing an increase of 345,790 students, or 9.8 percent. The number of applicants with complete data has the potential to increase after the residual data completion process is completed.
The Head of the Education Policy and Quality Development Agency (BKPDM), Toni Toharudin, stated that the increase in the number of prospective applicants indicates the broader participation of educational institutions in the TKA program. "This year, the number of prospective TKA applicants has increased by almost 10 percent compared to the previous year. This demonstrates the broader participation of educational institutions and students. We are also still finalizing residual data, so the number of registered applicants can still increase," Toni said.
After registration closed, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, along with local governments and educational institutions, continued the process of updating and finalizing residual data. This process was carried out to ensure that prospective participant data was complete and accurate before entering the TKA implementation phase.
The Ministry of Education and Culture expressed its appreciation to local governments, educational institutions, teachers, parents, and prospective participants who have supported the 2026 TKA registration process. Collaboration between all parties is crucial in ensuring the readiness of the assessment implementation in various regions of Indonesia.
Furthermore, the Ministry of Education and Culture is preparing for the implementation of the TKA, which is scheduled to take place from October 26 to November 8, 2026. Preparations include the readiness of educational units, infrastructure, systems, and coordination with local governments, regional offices of the Ministry of Religious Affairs, state universities, and various related stakeholders.
The TKA is an assessment used to obtain information about students' academic achievement. TKA results can be used to determine students' readiness to continue their education to the next level, support the new student admissions process, and provide data for stakeholders in improving the quality of learning.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education emphasizes that TKA does not determine graduation and does not replace assessments conducted by educational institutions. TKA provides information on student learning outcomes and can be used for various educational purposes.
Ahead of the implementation, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education encourages all students to prepare themselves by studying diligently and maintaining their health. Educational institutions are also expected to ensure technical readiness and provide guidance to students to ensure the smooth and orderly implementation of the TKA.*** (Author & Documentation: BKPDM Team/Editor: Stephanie, Seno)
