Jakarta, May 26, 2026 - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) officially announced the results of the 2026 Academic Ability Test (TKA) for elementary and Islamic elementary schools (SD/MI) and junior high schools (SMP/MTS) on Monday (May 26). This year's TKA achieved a very high national participation rate, with 98.12 percent of students successfully completing the assessment on the main schedule.

The Head of the Primary and Secondary Education Policy Agency (BKPDM) of the Ministry of Education and Culture, Toni Toharudin, emphasized that TKA produces rich, strategic, and mapped national-scale education big data down to the provincial, district/city, educational unit, and even student competency categories.

"This quality mapping serves as the basis for developing more precise, data-driven education policies, identifying areas that need strengthening, and ensuring that policies are based on real needs on the ground," Toni said.

According to data from the Primary and Secondary Education Policy Agency (BKPDM), of the 8,875,362 students registered for the main program, 8,708,891 took the TKA as scheduled. Meanwhile, 463,533 students out of a total of 490,551 registered participants took the supplementary program.

The Head of the Center for Educational Assessment (Kapusmendik), Rahmawati, said that this achievement is an indicator of increasing awareness among schools, parents, and students regarding the importance of assessment for improving the quality of education.

In its implementation, the TKA uses a classic scoring system with a 0–100 scale. Before the results are announced, all question packages and items undergo a statistical verification and validation process to ensure fairness for all students.

In addition to numerical results, TKA results also include achievement categories and descriptions of student abilities. This approach ensures that TKA is not simply a numerical result but serves as a learning reflection tool for students, teachers, and parents.

"If a child is in the adequate category, parents and teachers can see what skills they have mastered and what needs strengthening. So, TKA helps everyone understand the most appropriate learning strategies for students," explained Rahmawati.

Based on national results, Indonesian language achievement was recorded higher than mathematics at both levels. For elementary school (SD/MI) and equivalent, the average Indonesian language score was 60.14, while for mathematics, it was 43.41. Meanwhile, at junior high school (SMP/MTS) and equivalent, the average Indonesian language score was 60.83 and mathematics, 40.34.

On the same occasion, Toni also emphasized that the TKA is not a tool for labeling regions, schools, or students. He also assessed that the TKA results provide important signals regarding strengthening reasoning and problem-solving skills, particularly in mathematics. "This is a shared concern that logical thinking, mathematical reasoning, and problem-solving skills need to be continuously strengthened in the daily learning process," Toni said.

TKA results will be announced in stages, starting at 1:00 PM WIB on May 26, 2026. Education offices and regional offices will first gain access to the collective TKA results list before educational units verify participant data and print TKA Result Certificates (SHTKA) for distribution to students.

The Ministry of Education and Culture also ensures the integration of TKA results data with the New Student Admissions System (SPMB) for the achievement pathway via API and web services so that schools do not need to wait for manual uploads from students.

Yudhistira Nugraha, Head of the Communications and Public Relations Bureau of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, stated that the TKA results will be used as a component in the achievement-track assessment, along with report card grades and other achievements. "The use of TKA in the SPMB is expected to make the selection process more objective, fair, and transparent, and take students' academic abilities into account more comprehensively," Yudhistira said.*** (Author: Uly/Photographer: Destian)
