Jakarta, September 9, 2026 — The government, through the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), continues to strengthen efforts to provide educational facilities and infrastructure, including in the East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) region. Through the Education Unit Revitalization Program, schools in need of improvement are being identified, mapped based on need, and prioritized for assistance. One of these is Mboeng Public Elementary School in East Manggarai Regency, NTT.

The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, stated that East Nusa Tenggara Province is one of the priority areas for the revitalization program because it has a number of schools located in the outermost, most remote, and most remote (3T) regions. The revitalization is also part of an effort to fulfill President Prabowo Subianto's directive regarding the implementation of 13 Years of Compulsory Education.

In 2026, 1,487 educational institutions in NTT will be targeted for revitalization, with a total allocation of Rp1,208,684,805,539, or more than Rp1.2 trillion. This figure is a significant increase compared to the previous year and represents the largest revitalization program ever implemented in NTT.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Education and Culture Office of East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province, Ambrosius Kodo, stated, "This is a special opportunity for us, NTT Province, with its limited fiscal capacity. The central government is paying attention, and the provincial government will certainly support and oversee this program, ensuring its successful implementation."

He further stated that the Revitalization of Educational Units is a national strategic program, demonstrating the government's commitment to developing education throughout Indonesia, including in NTT. The NTT Provincial Government fully supports the program's implementation. This program also represents a special opportunity for NTT, given the region's limited fiscal capacity.

Ambrosius added that the provincial government will continue to monitor the program to ensure it meets its stated goals. "Our goal is to achieve quality education for all in the future," he said.

The Director General of Early Childhood Education, Basic Education, and Non-Formal and Informal Education (Director General of PAUD Dikdas PNFI), Gogot Suharwoto, emphasized that every child, wherever they live, has the right to study in a school that is safe, appropriate, and supports their growth and development and learning process.

"In 2026, 1,487 educational institutions in East Nusa Tenggara will be targeted for revitalization, with budget support of over IDR 1.2 trillion. This demonstrates the government's commitment to continuously expanding equitable education services, especially for schools that still need improved facilities and infrastructure," Gogot continued.

Based on data from the Ministry of Education and Culture as of September 7, 2026, revitalization recipients were spread across all levels of education. Elementary schools (SD) received the largest number of grants, reaching 644 schools worth Rp702.88 billion, followed by 603 early childhood education (PAUD) schools worth Rp232.46 billion, 136 junior high schools (SMP) schools worth Rp161.51 billion, and 69 senior high schools (SMA) schools worth Rp72.71 billion. Support was also provided to 13 vocational schools (SMK) worth Rp12.16 billion, 14 special schools (SLB) worth Rp21.72 billion, and eight community-based learning centers (PKBM/SKB) worth Rp5.25 billion.

Previously, in 2025, 580 educational units in NTT received government support through the revitalization and construction of New School Units (USB) program with a total budget of around IDR 603.5 billion.

In detail, the revitalization program was given to 43 PAUD with a budget of Rp15.83 billion, 234 SD with a budget of Rp160.73 billion, 174 SMP with a budget of Rp248.58 billion, 64 SMA with a budget of Rp75.96 billion, 44 SMK with a budget of Rp64.75 billion, nine SLB with a budget of Rp16.47 billion, and eight SKB/PKBM with a budget of Rp6.9 billion.

In the same year, the government also supported the construction of four New School Units (USB) in NTT with a total budget of approximately Rp14.3 billion, consisting of three early childhood education units (PAUD) and one high school (SMA) in Malaka Regency, North Central Timor, and West Sumba. The USB construction complements the revitalization program, a government effort to expand access and provide educational services closer to the community, especially in areas still experiencing limited educational facilities.

According to Gogot, revitalizing facilities and infrastructure is part of the ecosystem for improving education quality. This intervention goes hand in hand with digitalization of learning, teacher capacity building, and various programs to improve the quality of the teaching and learning process. By 2025, digitalization support for learning in NTT will reach 8,985 educational institutions, with an assistance value of more than IDR 297.27 billion.

"Our children need safe and comfortable learning spaces, but at the same time, they also deserve access to increasingly high-quality, modern-day learning. Therefore, revitalization and digitalization are not an option. Both go hand in hand to realize Quality Education for All, including for children in East Nusa Tenggara," he continued.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education continues to push for the revitalization to be implemented accountably, on target, and in accordance with regulations so that its benefits can be felt immediately by students, teachers, and the school community. The government also continues to monitor the program's implementation, from the determination of recipients and the implementation of the work to the completion and utilization of the revitalization results.

Gogot added that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is open to information and public input regarding the condition of educational units on the ground.
