Caring for woven fabric requires attention to the following points. According to Monika Situmorang, a 2023 alumna of the Tekun Tenun Indonesia Entrepreneurship Skills Education (PKW) program from Samosir Regency, North Sumatra, the first step in caring for woven fabric is to wash it by hand. Woven fabrics generally have finer and more fragile fibers than regular fabrics. Therefore, it's best to wash woven fabric by hand. Use cold or warm water and a mild detergent. Avoid using a washing machine, as the cycle can damage the fabric fibers.

Second, avoid using bleach. Bleach and harsh detergents can damage the colors and fibers of woven fabrics. If woven fabric gets stained, gently clean it immediately with a mild liquid detergent and water. For stubborn stains, try using white vinegar or baking soda as safer, natural alternatives.

Third, dry in a shady place. After washing, woven fabric should be dried in a shady place, out of direct sunlight. Excessive sunlight can fade the fabric's color. Dry woven fabric by airing or hanging it in a shady place to avoid damaging the fibers and color.

Fourth, iron the woven fabric at a low temperature. To remove wrinkles, iron the woven fabric at a low temperature. It's best to use a lining cloth over the woven fabric when ironing to avoid direct contact with heat, which can damage the fibers. If possible, iron the woven fabric while it's slightly damp for best results.

Fifth, store woven fabrics properly. Storing woven fabrics also affects their durability. Store woven fabrics in a dry, cool place to prevent mold growth. Ideally, fold the woven fabric neatly and store it in a box or closet that isn't too crowded.
