The Literacy Mobile Visits Jayapura Elementary Schools to Improve Reading and Arithmetic Culture

Jayapura, Kemendikdasmen — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), through the Papua Province Education Quality Assurance Center (BPMP), visited Inpres Kampung Baru Elementary School in Jayapura City on Friday (October 24th). Through the Literacy Mobile (Simoli), the Papua Province BPMP continues to foster a culture of reading and numeracy in children from an early age through fun approaches such as storytelling, group reading, and educational games.

The Head of the Papua Province Education and Training Agency (BPMP), Junus Simangunsong, explained that the visit was designed to spark children's enthusiasm for learning, making reading and arithmetic enjoyable. "Simoli is here to inspire Jayapura children to enjoy reading and arithmetic in a relaxed way that fits their joyful world. Our team is equipped with specialized skills in presenting literacy and numeracy in a way that remains educational yet engaging," Junus said.

Meanwhile, the Principal of Inpres Kampung Baru Elementary School, Anita, expressed her appreciation and gratitude to the Ministry of Education and Culture through the Papua Province BPMP for their continued attention to strengthening literacy and numeracy for Papuan children. "We are grateful to the Papua BPMP for bringing Simoli to our school. This activity is very positive because it reminds children to love reading and counting from an early age. Currently, many children prefer playing with gadgets, even though if used properly, gadgets can also be beneficial for learning. Therefore, guidance and supervision from parents at home are also important factors," said Anita.

On that occasion, Anita also encouraged her students to choose reading materials appropriate for their grade level. "Children in lower grades can read picture books, while children in upper grades can read books with more text. All of these interesting books are available in the Simoli mobile," she added.

With great enthusiasm, one of the school's students, Erenius, expressed his delight at Simoli's visit to his school. "We're so happy because Simoli brought lots of books and fun games with prizes. We hope Simoli can come to our school again," said Erinus.

Through this activity, it is hoped that Papuan children will be further motivated to explore their curiosity, foster a love of reading and arithmetic, and cultivate a habit of engaging in learning wherever they are. Collaboration between schools, parents, the community, and the government is key to ensuring that Indonesian children, particularly in Papua Province, are not only skilled in using technology but also have a strong foundation in literacy and numeracy for their future.
