Metro, Lampung, Ministry of Education and Culture — A safe and comfortable learning space is a crucial part of a child's educational experience. Through the Education Unit Revitalization program, the government is improving school facilities so that students and teachers can experience the learning process in a more suitable environment.
During his visit to Lampung, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, reviewed the revitalization progress at Metro Timur Public Elementary School 5 and Metro Metro Public Middle School 9. The revitalization process at both schools has reached approximately 50 percent completion and is scheduled for completion in November or mid-December 2026 at the latest.
The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education reiterated the government's commitment to ensuring adequate educational facilities and infrastructure, even in remote areas. However, he also emphasized the importance of all school members maintaining the educational facilities provided. This will ensure that more children benefit from quality educational services.
"Revitalization must improve school facilities and infrastructure while simultaneously encouraging improvements in the quality of learning," said the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education some time ago.
The Educational Unit Revitalization Program at SMPN 9 Metro received a budget allocation of Rp 1,185,427,000. The work includes the rehabilitation of classrooms and furniture, the rehabilitation of science laboratories and furniture, and environmental improvement through the construction of a basketball court. "We are very grateful for the revitalization budget that has been provided," said the Principal of SMPN 9 Metro, Liya Panji Kesuma.
Prior to the revitalization, the most noticeable issue was the limited or suboptimal learning facilities, such as classroom conditions, roofs, floors, lighting, ventilation, and other supporting facilities. These conditions can impact student and teacher comfort during learning.
Liya stated that the improved facilities are expected to provide a better learning experience for both students and teachers. "The most obvious change is that students can learn in a safer, more comfortable, cleaner, and more organized environment. A suitable learning space is expected to encourage students to be more focused, actively participate, and enthusiastic about learning," she said.
He hopes the physical development will also be accompanied by the provision of learning equipment and other supporting facilities. "We hope these facilities can be optimally utilized to support active, creative, and enjoyable learning," he said.
Revitalization is expected to be the first step in creating an educational environment that better supports student growth and development. A good school isn't just about decent buildings; it also requires space for teachers to teach effectively and for students to learn enthusiastically.
"Thank you, Mr. President and Mr. Minister for the revitalization of the school, we will study harder," exclaimed three students representing SMPN 9 Metro, namely Ratu Qimora, Rizna Aurora Putri, and Mezzaluna Azzury; full of enthusiasm.
Previously in 2025, revitalization in Metro City targeted 23 schools with a budget of Rp16 billion. Increasing from the previous year, in 2026, the revitalization program in Metro City targeted 56 schools with a total budget of around Rp34.18 billion. The total budget allocated by the government for the Educational Unit Revitalization Program in Lampung Province in 2026 was around Rp1.31 trillion, targeting 1,737 educational units. Nationally, the government plans to revitalize 71,744 educational units in 2026. Priority for this program is given to schools affected by disasters, schools in disadvantaged, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas, and schools with severe damage.
