Surabaya, East Java, September 29, 2026 — The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, emphasized the government's commitment to strengthening the quality of education through the Revitalization of Educational Units and the Digitalization of Learning. Both programs are priority programs mandated by President Prabowo Subianto to the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen).
Abdul Mu'ti made this statement during an event to Strengthen the Implementation of Priority Programs and Revitalize Educational Units in East Java. According to him, strengthening education is carried out through four foundations: physical infrastructure through revitalization and digitalization; pedagogical infrastructure through improving the quality of educators and education personnel; cultural infrastructure through strengthening character education; and regulatory infrastructure that supports the implementation of quality education.
To improve the condition of learning facilities in schools, the government is targeting gradual repairs to all schools experiencing moderate to severe damage. By 2025, 16,167 educational units will have been revitalized. By 2026, the government aims to revitalize 71,744 educational units through additional budget support and the state budget.
The revitalization is being implemented through a self-managed mechanism. According to Minister Mu'ti, this mechanism simplifies implementation, is more efficient due to direct management, and allows development to be tailored to the needs of each school. Self-management also involves the local community, thus stimulating the economy around the educational unit.
In 2026, priority for revitalization will be given to educational institutions affected by disasters, located in remote, frontier, and outermost (3T) areas, and those experiencing severe damage. The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen) has called on all parties to oversee the program's implementation to ensure it is on target and runs according to its objectives. "I urge everyone to support this program. No one should interfere with this program for personal gain," Abdul Mu'ti emphasized.
On the other hand, the Digitalization of Learning program is aimed at supporting teachers in delivering a more engaging and meaningful learning process. This support is provided through the provision of Interactive Flat Panels (IFPs), accompanied by teacher training, laptop assistance, and the provision of learning materials on storage media. Abdul Mu'ti stated that the provision of IFPs will continue to be expanded. By 2026, the government is preparing additional devices so that each educational unit can have three IFPs, while also increasing teachers' capacity to utilize this technology to make learning more engaging and meaningful.
The Head of the East Java Provincial Education Office, Aries Agung Paewai, expressed his appreciation for the central government's support for improving the quality of education in East Java, particularly through the Education Unit Revitalization program. He noted that this support has been felt by education units across various regions, including those requiring affirmative action. "One of the national programs whose impact we have truly felt is the Education Unit Revitalization. On behalf of the East Java Provincial Government and the entire education community in East Java Province, we extend our gratitude to the President of the Republic of Indonesia, the Minister, and all their staff," Aries said.
Specifically in East Java, revitalization support was provided to 248 senior high schools (SMA), 307 vocational high schools (SMK), and 121 special needs schools (SLB) in 2026, including educational institutions in the 3T (third-most remote) areas. These figures demonstrate that revitalization targets not only improvements to physical facilities but also supports the creation of a better learning environment for the school community.
