Depok, West Java, February 11, 2026 - The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) affirmed its commitment to continuing and strengthening various priority education programs in 2026. The main focus in this transformation agenda is directed at efforts to provide education that is not only of quality in terms of numbers, but also meaningful for every child of the nation.

At the opening of the 2026 National Consolidation of Primary and Secondary Education (Konsolnas), Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, emphasized that priority programs such as revitalizing educational units, digitizing learning, and improving teacher quality and welfare remain key pillars. He stated that achievements in previous years have provided a crucial foundation for accelerating future programs.

One major breakthrough that continues to be expanded is the Deep Learning approach. By 2025, more than 52,000 school principals had participated in training to lead learning transformation, along with 186,000 educators and education personnel who successfully completed the training. Going forward, the expansion of Deep Learning implementation will continue as part of efforts to strengthen the quality of the teaching and learning process. This step was taken because the Ministry of Education and Culture believes that the key to the Golden Indonesia generation of 2045 lies in qualified teachers and a conscious learning system.

"We are implementing an in-depth learning initiative to make the learning process more meaningful, conscious, and enjoyable through holistic and integrated thought, heart, feeling, and exercise training," Minister Mu'ti emphasized in her opening remarks.

Changing the Stigma and Humanizing Students

The implementation of Deep Learning has begun to show positive impacts in educational settings, particularly in changing students' perceptions of subjects previously considered difficult. Angga Dwi Pratama, a math teacher at Al-Azhar Islamic Middle School in Kelapa Gading, Surabaya, shared his experience implementing this method since early 2025.

According to Angga, one of the biggest challenges in learning is the stigma students hold about certain subjects, such as mathematics. Through Deep Learning, teachers are encouraged to spark students' curiosity by raising topical and real-life issues as a gateway to conceptual understanding.

"Previously, kids would complain when they heard about math class. Now, the before and after are very clear. They're more enthusiastic because they're curious about what we'll discuss today. The goal of learning now isn't just to learn more, but to solve problems or find solutions. That's what makes them aware of the need to learn," Angga explained.

He also added that the teacher's role is crucial in this method. Teachers must not only focus on technical material, but also be diligent in literacy and be sensitive to current trends among Generation Z and Alpha to ensure classroom discussions remain relevant and lively.

Echoing this sentiment, Eko Wahyudi, Head of the Elementary School Education Implementation Section at the Tuban Regency Education Office, East Java, believes that the Immersive Learning method, which began to be implemented in his region in the 2025/2026 semester, has provided a breath of fresh air. "My impression is that this method is very suitable because it humanizes students more. Although the challenge lies in teacher support, we are optimistic that students will understand the concepts more deeply and be enthusiastic about collaborating," said Eko.

Training Commitment and Adaptation Challenges

In South Bangka Regency, Bangka Belitung Islands, Immersive Learning has reached 140 teachers and principals through intensive training. Cik Aden, Head of the Junior High School Development Division of the South Bangka Regency Education Office, revealed that many teachers felt "enlightened" by this approach.

"The teachers are very enthusiastic, some even find this method very relevant and are fully committed. Despite concerns about proper implementation standards in the classroom, we continue to encourage dissemination to surrounding schools so that this enthusiasm can spread," said Cik Aden. She hopes that through this method, students will not only develop critical and innovative thinking skills but also become accustomed to working independently and reflectively.

Local Creativity and Hope from the Region

Support for Immersive Learning also comes from eastern Indonesia. Jantje, Head of the Junior High School Development Division of the Education and Culture Office of North Halmahera Regency, North Maluku, found this approach very enjoyable because it allows teachers to be creative.

"This concept is very effective in improving student outcomes because it's tailored to each student's individual ability level. Teachers creatively design learning to suit the diverse circumstances and backgrounds of their students," Jantje explained.

Jantje hopes the central and regional governments will continue to work together, including by providing supporting resources, from textbooks to non-textbooks, relevant to the Deep Learning method. He also proposed that this spirit be shared among peers by establishing "Deep Learning Ambassadors" among students.

Through the synergy between the central government's grand vision and the dedication of teachers in schools, the Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education is optimistic that Deep Learning will become a new spirit for national education, a system that does not only pursue grades, but develops whole and globally competitive human beings.*** (Author: Rany/Editor: Denty A., Seno H./Documentation: BKHM Team)
