Jakarta, September 14, 2026 – The recovery of educational services following the earthquake in East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province continues to show positive progress. According to today's data, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) is accelerating its efforts by beginning the distribution of the first phase of revitalization assistance to educational institutions damaged by the disaster and constructing Temporary Classrooms (RKS).

Revitalization assistance has been gradually distributed to 187 educational institutions with a total budget of Rp50 billion. This revitalization program covers 140 early childhood education (PAUD) units worth Rp500 million, 5 special education (SLB) units worth Rp6.45 billion, 2 community-based learning centers (PKBM) and 1 special education (SKB) units worth Rp1 billion, and 39 vocational high schools (SMK) units worth Rp42.2 billion. Meanwhile, verification and validation processes have been completed for elementary, middle, and high schools (SMP), and currently in the needs assessment stage.

In addition to revitalization assistance, the Ministry of Education and Culture is also accelerating recovery by distributing 672 RKS units with a total budget of Rp 3.5 billion. This RKS assistance reaches 194 RKS for early childhood education (PAUD), 12 RKS for special needs (SLB), and 372 RKS for vocational high schools (SMK), with a value of Rp 4 million per RKS. As well as 65 RKS for junior high schools and 29 RKS for senior high schools (SMA) at a value of Rp 15 million per RKS.

The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education also noted that 2,447 educational institutions have resumed learning. Of these, 487 have resumed normal classroom sessions, while 1,960 are conducting classes in various emergency settings, including tents, open spaces, and makeshift classrooms.

"This good news is the result of the hard work of all parties working together to help restore education services in NTT to normal. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education remains committed to supporting the recovery of education services in NTT so that learning activities can resume optimally and all students continue to have the space to grow, learn, and achieve their dreams," said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti on Monday (September 14).

Psychosocial Assistance and Provision of Emergency Classrooms

In addition to distributing assistance for the revitalization and construction of school-based learning centers (RKS), the Director of Special Education and Special Education Services, Saryadi, stated that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education is also providing psychosocial support to 75 schools through collaboration with various partners. Furthermore, the Ministry will conduct training for 120 national facilitators and 1,700 regional facilitators, who will support the support of approximately 51,000 educators and education personnel in seven affected districts.

"This step was taken to rebuild the mental and morale of the school community so that the learning process can return to normal," said Saryadi.

Underscoring the government's commitment to ensuring the sustainability of education services, Saryadi explained that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has also distributed emergency classroom tents worth a total of Rp5.5 billion. The tents have been distributed entirely to Manggarai Regency, East Manggarai Regency, Nagekeo Regency, West Manggarai Regency, Sikka Regency, Ngada Regency, and Ende Regency.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Culture has also distributed initial aid worth IDR 6 billion to seven affected districts. This assistance includes 10,000 children's food packages, 1,000 basic food packages, 5,500 school kits, 1,500 family kits, and 10,000 reading books.

"We also appreciate the steps taken by the provincial and regional governments in NTT, which have issued circulars and decrees regarding post-disaster education. These policies align with Circular Letter No. 1 of 2026 from the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education concerning the Implementation of Learning in Disaster-Affected Educational Units," he said.

To the families of school residents who lost family members or were injured due to the earthquake, Saryadi said that the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education had distributed compensation totaling Rp330 million, consisting of Rp5 million for each student who died, Rp10 million for teachers who died, Rp2 million for teachers who were injured, and Rp1 million for students who were injured.

"We invite all stakeholders, both local governments and the community, to continue working together to ensure that the right to education for NTT children is fulfilled, even in emergency situations," concluded Saryadi.*** (Author: Destian/Editor: Uly/Documentation: BKHM Team)
