The Ministry of Elementary and Secondary Education and Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI) Present In-Depth Learning Through the Youth Public Relations Movement

Tasikmalaya, July 31, 2026 – Learning is no longer enough to make students master the subject matter. In the digital era, they also need to be able to think critically, sort information, collaborate, communicate, and produce works that are beneficial to society. This spirit is the basis for the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) together with Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives to hold the Workshop "Young Public Relations: Meaningful Learning, Working Together" at the University of Muhammadiyah Tasikmalaya (UMTAS), as one of the implementations of the Deep Learning approach that is mindful , meaningful, and joyful .

The workshop, organized by the Ministry of Education and Culture's Bureau of Communication and Public Relations, was attended by 100 junior high, senior high, and vocational high school students, along with teachers from Tasikmalaya and the surrounding area. Through this activity, participants not only learned how to create digital content but also practiced observing their environment, gathering information, verifying information, developing narratives, collaborating, and communicating ideas responsibly. All of these processes are part of the learning experience that is the essence of Deep Learning.

The urgency of this activity is increasingly evident given the high level of digital activity among students. Data from the Central Statistics Agency (BPS) shows that 68.88 percent of students use the internet for social media and 68.22 percent for information seeking, while its use for learning remains at 33.40 percent. Therefore, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education encourages the use of digital spaces not only as a means of consuming information, but also as a space for learning, creating, and sharing inspiration.

Ferdiansyah, a member of Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives (DPR RI), stated that the Young Public Relations Workshop provides a platform for students to hone their communication skills to prepare them for their work and contribution to society. He believes communication skills are a crucial skill for the younger generation to convey ideas and benefit their communities.

"Young Public Relations prepares the younger generation to become good communicators. Because a person's success is determined not only by their knowledge but also by their ability to build relationships. Communication isn't just about speaking; it's about how we can provide value, whether through our knowledge, experience, or networks," he said.

The Head of the Bureau of Communication and Public Relations of the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Yudhistira Nugraha, said that students are no longer simply recipients of information, but need to be encouraged to become creators of knowledge and disseminators of good educational practices.

"So, Deep Learning is not a new curriculum, but rather a learning approach that continues to be promoted by the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education, Abdul Mu'ti. This approach emphasizes mindful , meaningful , and joyful learning. This means that learning does not stop in the classroom, but needs to be linked to real life so that it produces useful and impactful work. This is the spirit carried through the Young Public Relations workshop: Meaningful Learning, Working Together," said Yudhistira.

On that occasion, Yudhistira also introduced the Ruang Murid feature on the Rumah Pendidikan superapplication as a free digital learning resource, as well as the @wajahpendidikan.id and @ceritapendidikan.id channels as a forum for students, teachers, students, parents, and educational units to share good practices, innovations, and inspiring stories from all over Indonesia.

UMTAS Rector Neni Nuraeni also emphasized that educational quality is measured not only by academic achievement but also by the ability to build good communication with the community. According to her, the role of public relations is crucial in building an educational institution's reputation. "The most important thing is open and trustworthy communication. This is paramount, no matter how many achievements a school has, but communication and trust are truly extraordinary. Therefore, this is certainly a reputation that is essential for a school," she said.

Through the collaboration between the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education and Commission X of the Indonesian House of Representatives, the Young Public Relations Movement is expected to become a space for practicing Deep Learning that encourages the birth of a generation of lifelong learners, skilled in utilizing technology, and able to transform knowledge into works and inspiration for the advancement of Indonesian education.*** (Writer & Photographer: Uly)
