Yogyakarta, March 16, 2022 --- Iwan Syahril, Chair of the G20 Education Working Group (EdWG), stated that through the G20 EdWG, Indonesia is inviting the world to work together to reorganize and rebuild the education system. This is to prepare the nation's children to be resilient in facing future challenges and responding to global demands.

"Through the G20 EdWG, Indonesia is leading the global movement to reorganize and build the education system," said Iwan in his opening remarks at the first EdWG meeting in the Special Region of Yogyakarta, Wednesday (16/3).

He explained that inequality in access to quality education and students' unpreparedness for the world of work have been global issues for decades. Furthermore, the pandemic has exacerbated these issues by widening socioeconomic disparities and bringing significant changes to the education system and the world of work.

The Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel at the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology of the Republic of Indonesia (Kemendikbudristek RI) emphasized the need for this mutual cooperation movement to improve. "The fact that the pandemic has impacted the entire world and everyone emphasizes the importance of global mutual cooperation," Iwan said.

"We have to move now. Our children cannot continue to wait for their schools to reopen and experience learning loss. This is not just a matter of not attending class or failing an exam, but a matter of our children losing interest in learning and losing self-confidence. This is a matter of future leaders who no longer dare to aspire," said Iwan.

The first day of the G20 EdWG meeting consisted of two sessions. The first session discussed the first priority agenda, namely Quality Education for All. The second session discussed the second priority agenda, namely Digital Technology in Education.
