The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Encourages School Environments to Become Learning Resources for Students

Banyumas, Central Java, October 13, 2026 – The Minister of Primary and Secondary Education (Mendikdasmen), Abdul Mu'ti, encouraged schools to utilize their surroundings as a learning resource to support in-depth learning. He conveyed this during a visit to SMA Negeri 1 Patikraja, as part of the implementation of the 2026 Educational Unit Revitalization program in Banyumas, Central Java (10/10). Through direct experience, students can recognize plant types, learn their characteristics, and connect classroom knowledge to everyday life.

One proposed approach is to install information boards on trees in the school environment. These boards could display the tree's name, scientific name, and information about its characteristics and benefits. In this way, the school environment can become an easily accessible learning resource for students while encouraging them to observe, ask questions, and foster environmental awareness.

Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti explained that utilizing the school environment is part of the implementation of deep learning through the creation of a learning environment that supports the educational process. " Deep learning is integrated with the creation of a school environment known as the hidden curriculum ," Mu'ti said. The concept of the hidden curriculum refers to the values, habits, and experiences that students learn through their environment and daily life at school. Thus, the school environment is not only a place of learning but can also help shape students' character and curiosity.

During the visit, the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education also reviewed the implementation of the 2026 Educational Unit Revitalization program at SMA Negeri 1 Patikraja. Work at the school includes the construction of two new classrooms and the rehabilitation of three. The vacant area also has the potential to be developed into classrooms in the future, depending on the school's needs and technical feasibility. The use of school facilities requires responsible management and maintenance to ensure the available facilities provide sustainable benefits for student learning.

In Central Java Province, the Education Unit Revitalization program will reach 1,783 schools or educational units by 2025, with a total budget of Rp1.475 trillion and employing 23,430 workers. By 2026, 5,443 schools will have signed cooperation agreements (PKS) worth Rp4.169 trillion. As of the date of available data, funds have been disbursed to 4,597 schools, totaling Rp2.434 trillion, employing 62,609 workers.

Specifically in Banyumas Regency, the revitalization program in 2025 reached 30 schools or educational units with a total budget of Rp29.786 billion and employed 499 workers. By 2026, 176 schools had signed PKS worth Rp114.875 billion. Funds have been disbursed to 156 schools, totaling Rp69.387 billion, employing 1,996 workers.

During the meeting with students, the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education also emphasized the importance of preparing for the Academic Ability Test (TKA), which includes mastery of the material, test-solving strategies, and mental readiness. "First, master the material. Second, prepare a strategy. Third, prepare mentally. Those three are key," said the Minister of Elementary and Secondary Education. He reminded that all three aspects need to be prepared in a balanced manner. "You can master the material, but if the strategy is wrong, you won't be able to master the material well. But if the strategy is good, but your mentality is down , and you're stressed just looking at the questions, it won't work. That's why we created the motto: be honest and happy," he said.

Abdul Mu'ti also reminded students not to be discouraged when faced with lengthy reading passages. He explained that the TKA questions were designed based on PISA ( Programme for International Student Assessment ) standards. He believes that mastery of the material, strategies, and mental preparedness are essential for students to demonstrate their abilities effectively.

Furthermore, Abdul Mu'ti emphasized the importance of education for students' futures and their contribution to society. "Don't believe people who say school isn't important; what matters is being smart. No one is smart without school. School is the key to success. Education can also enable us to do better and do more for others and the nation," said Minister of Primary and Secondary Education Abdul Mu'ti. (Writer and Photographer: Irfan/Editor: Rany)
