Shanghai, China, September 24, 2026 - The enthusiasm of young talents from around the world resonated in Shanghai, China. This moment marked the start of the 48th WorldSkills Competition (WSC), held at the Shanghai World Expo Cultural Center on Tuesday (September 22). The entire Indonesian delegation attended with the spirit of showcasing their best skills and ready to bring honor to the nation on the global stage.
The event, which will take place from September 22 to 27, 2026, will bring together young talents from 68 countries and regions to showcase their skills in 64 fields of expertise. The WSC Shanghai 2026 series of events will begin with a Parade of Nations led by the WorldSkills Champions Trust , followed by art performances and a light and sound system that combines elements of culture and technology.
In this year's event, Indonesia sent 20 competitors accompanied by 17 experts , as well as a support team who will compete in 17 areas of expertise. The 17 expertise ranges from Mechatronics, Software Application Development, Autobody Repair, Electronics, Web Technologies, Industrial Control, Pâtisserie and Confectionery, Automobile Technology, Cooking, Restaurant Service, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning, IT Network Systems Administration, Industry 4.0, Heavy Vehicle Technology, 3D Digital Game Art, Rail Vehicle Technology, and Robot Systems Integration.
The competitors come from diverse backgrounds, including students and alumni of vocational schools, educational institutions, and industry partners. They have undergone intensive coaching and training before competing at the global level. The presence of the Indonesian delegation among thousands of young talents globally reflects the spirit of continuously developing competencies, expanding international experience, and showcasing the potential skills of the nation's youth.
On a different occasion, the Director General of Secondary Education and Special Education (Dirjen Dikmen Diksus), Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), Tatang Muttaqin, expressed his support for the Indonesian delegation competing in WSC Shanghai 2026.
Director General Tatang emphasized that Indonesia's participation in WSC 2026 is not only oriented towards achieving achievements, but also provides an opportunity to gain experience, compare skills standards with other countries, and strengthen the relevance of vocational education to technological developments and global industrial needs.
"This opportunity is a platform to demonstrate that Indonesia's young vocational talent possesses skills, fighting spirit, and creativity that are on par with world-class standards. Don't be discouraged; compete with confidence, focus, discipline, and sportsmanship, and give your best," explained Director General Tatang Muttaqin on Thursday (September 24).
Director General Tatang advised the Indonesian delegates to absorb as much experience as possible and bring it back to Indonesia. He hopes this opportunity will inspire vocational school students and the younger generation to continue honing their skills and compete internationally.
"Don't just come home with medals. Come home with experience, technology, and world-class standards. The greatest victory isn't just when the Indonesian flag flies on the podium, but also when experience transforms the way we educate and train millions of vocational school students across the country. From Indonesia to the world, skilled talents are ready to showcase their best abilities on the WSC Shanghai 2026 stage," concluded Director General Tatang.
Following the opening ceremony, Indonesian competitors prepared for the competition, scheduled for September 23-26, 2026, at the National Exhibition and Convention Center (NECC), Shanghai. The entire WSC Shanghai 2026 series will conclude on September 27, 2026, with a closing ceremony and medal awards ceremony.
