Jakarta, September 7, 2026 - Opportunities for teachers to improve their academic qualifications are increasingly open. The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen), through the Directorate General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Ditjen GTK), is facilitating 32,828 teachers to continue their education to the Bachelor's (S-1)/Diploma Four (D-4) level in 2026 through the S-1/D-4 Teacher Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program.

The program is implemented in collaboration with the Teacher Training Institute (LPTK). This partnership was strengthened through the signing of a Cooperation Agreement for the Third Batch of the S-1/D-4 Teacher Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program, as part of the government's efforts to improve teacher quality and professionalism throughout Indonesia.

The Director General of Teachers and Education Personnel (Dirjen GTK), Nunuk Suryani, emphasized that improving teacher quality is a crucial part of achieving quality education for all. "A nation's progress is determined by the quality of its human resources. Therefore, education is a key factor in developing the Indonesian people, particularly the quality of its teachers," Nunuk said.

He emphasized that the opportunity to obtain academic qualifications must be open to all teachers, including those with disabilities who cannot continue their education at university. "Qualifications are not a dream. President Prabowo and the Minister of Primary and Secondary Education are opening up opportunities for teachers with disabilities to study at university," he emphasized during the signing of the Cooperation Agreement for the Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program for S-1/D-4 Teachers, Wave 3, in Jakarta on Monday (September 7).

Furthermore, Nunuk explained that the program is designed to allow teachers to continue their duties at school while attending lectures. The LPTK (Learning Institution for Teacher Training) provides a flexible lecture schedule so teachers can study without leaving their schools and students.

In Wave 3 in 2026, 45,660 teachers registered, and 32,828 teachers were facilitated to participate in the program. Participants included 25,936 early childhood education (PAUD) teachers and educators, 3,278 elementary school teachers, 3,391 subject teachers at the junior high, senior high, and vocational high school levels, and 223 special education (SLB) teachers. A total of 127 LPTKs, including 35 newly joined LPTKs, participated in this year's collaborative effort to support teachers' academic qualification requirements.

Nunuk stated that the partnership with universities represents a form of mutual cooperation to address the challenge of improving teacher quality. "The cooperation agreement with the Teacher Training Institute (TPTI) is one example of mutual cooperation in advancing education. With a spirit of collaboration and synergy, we work together to advance education by improving teacher quality," she said.

Furthermore, fulfilling the S-1/D-4 qualification also paves the way for teachers to participate in the Specific Teacher Professional Education (PPG) and obtain teacher certification. By 2026, 8,900 teachers are targeted to complete Wave 1 of the Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program through the affirmative action scheme and then proceed to the PPG program.

Nunuk emphasized that the program's success indicator extends beyond diplomas, but also directly impacts the quality of learning experienced by students. "This program not only meets regulatory requirements but also further supports efforts to achieve quality education for all. It not only meets qualifications but also improves teachers' competency in implementing the learning and teaching process in the classroom," she concluded.

Meanwhile, the Director of Early Childhood Education and Non-Formal Education Teachers (Dir. Guru PAUD dan PNF), Saiful Bari, appreciated the support of LPTK which helped open up access to qualification improvement for teachers. "We express our highest appreciation to the Education Personnel Education Institutions that organize the S-1/D-4 Teacher Academic Qualification Fulfillment Program for their support and cooperation. Your presence today demonstrates our shared commitment to providing quality education for all Indonesian children," said Saiful.

He added that improving teacher qualifications has a broader impact because it is directly related to the quality of educational services received by students. "Based on Dapodik data, as many as 174,520 teachers do not yet meet the academic qualifications of a bachelor's degree (S-1) or diploma (D-4), and most of them are early childhood education (PAUD) and elementary school teachers. This means that hundreds of thousands of our students are still learning with teachers who we need to support to improve their competency," he concluded.*** (Writer: Ririn / Photographer: Morecka / Editor: Rany)
