Jakarta, May 8, 2026 — The Language Development and Fostering Agency (Badan Bahasa), Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, in collaboration with the Aceh Regional Government, held a talk show and the initial launch of the 14th Nusantara Poets Meeting (PPN) as a strategic step in strengthening the Indonesian literary and linguistic ecosystem. This event is intended to make a real contribution to strengthening literature's position as a vital part of Indonesian identity and culture.
The 14th PPN is scheduled to take place in June 2026, hosted by Aceh. The forum will bring together poets from various regions in Indonesia, as well as neighboring countries and internationally, to strengthen networks, exchange ideas, and foster appreciation and development of literature at the national and regional levels.
The Head of the Language Agency, Hafidz Muksin, stated that forums like PPN are crucial spaces for fostering collaboration, creativity, and a passion for creativity, which stems from the fighting spirit of poets. He believes cross-sector collaboration is crucial for building a literary ecosystem.
"Collaboration between various parties is key to realizing and enhancing the literary ecosystem in Indonesia. Language and literature are one entity; through language, we convey meaning intelligently, and through literature, we transform it into creative works, including as a medium for social criticism and the expression of ideas and hopes," he said at the M. Tabrani Building of the Language Agency in Jakarta on Wednesday (May 6).
Strengthening literature requires synergy between the central government, regional governments, cultural institutions, and literary communities. Therefore, the support of the regional government, including the presence of the Deputy Regent of Central Aceh, the Head of the Aceh Provincial Library and Archives Service, the Head of the Central Aceh District Library and Archives Service, the Head of the Aceh Provincial Language Center, and writers from Aceh at the launch event, demonstrates the spirit of collective participation between the central and regional governments, as well as regional writers, in advancing Indonesian literature. Also present from the Ministry of Culture was the Minister's Special Staff, Nissa Rengganis.
The Ministry of Education and Culture continues to support the strengthening of literature. Since 2023, the Language Agency has implemented various programs, including the Ministry's literary awards and government assistance in the literary field for writers and literary communities in various regions.
In addition, the Language Agency is developing a literary residency program, both domestically and internationally, to encourage the exchange of ideas and expand the reach of Indonesian literary works internationally. Meanwhile, at the school level, LIRIS magazine has been published as a space for literary creativity, featuring short stories and poetry written by students, teachers, and literary communities. It is published monthly.
On the same occasion, the Deputy Regent of Central Aceh, Muchsin Hasan, expressed his support for the PPN. Furthermore, Aceh boasts a rich literary and cultural heritage. "Aceh is a treasure trove of writers and cultural figures. Central Aceh is also known as a hub of poets and thinkers, and boasts an intangible cultural heritage that is a regional and national treasure," he said.
The Head of the Aceh Library and Archives Service, Syahrul, added that public interest in literacy and literature in Aceh has shown positive growth. The high number of library visits, especially during Ramadan, is supported by comfortable and diverse facilities, ranging from information technology services to activity spaces such as book reviews and literary performances.
The Mandate Chair of the National Student Press Association (PPN), Ahmadun Yossi Herfanda, stated that the PPN serves as a shared space for writers to unite in advancing literature, particularly poetry, and strengthening the Indonesian language. He hopes this forum will generate meaningful ideas, strengthen brotherhood, and contribute to the creation of peace through literature.
In closing, poet Bara Pattyradja emphasized, "PPN is a literary meeting space as well as a momentum to continue cultivating poetic ideas. Amidst the current situation of national life and the current era that tends to favor material aspects, poetry is one of the last bastions of conscience.
