Jakarta, November 13, 2025 - Amidst the rapid development of technology, rebuilding social trust in the digital world is a major challenge facing the global community. This issue was highlighted in a panel discussion entitled "Rebuilding Social Trust in a Digital World" at the International Conference on Cross-Cultural Religious Literacy (ICCCRL ) held by the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) and the Leimena Institute in Jakarta on Tuesday (11/11).
Laksmi Dewi, Head of the Center for Curriculum and Learning at the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, stated that the Ministry has implemented various programs to utilize technology wisely and build the character of the younger generation by 2025. "Technology is crucial in the educational process because it serves as a tool to support successful learning, for both teachers and students," she explained.
According to Laksmi, digital literacy is a crucial foundation for technology use. "Digital literacy is the ability to use information and communication technology to find, evaluate, utilize, create, and communicate information. This is a crucial factor in fostering social trust through the information shared," she said.
As a concrete step, the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education has implemented two technology-focused subjects: informatics and coding and artificial intelligence (AI). Informatics is now compulsory for students from grades 7 to 12, while coding and AI are taught as electives starting in grade 5. This program is part of an initiative to ensure every child has an understanding and ethical approach to using digital technology.
The Ministry of Education and Culture has also prepared various guides related to the implementation of digital literacy skills, including subject guides for informatics, coding, and AI, as well as AI utilization for teachers and students. "Hopefully, these guides can help students and teachers use technology, particularly artificial intelligence, for learning purposes," he concluded.
Meanwhile, Ismunandar, Expert Staff for Inter-Institutional Relations at the Ministry of Culture and Head of Adviser for Day of AI Indonesia , highlighted the urgency of literacy related to AI and social media. He views digital literacy as a necessity for all people, enabling them to think and use it critically. Day of AI itself provides open-source learning materials that have been translated and contextualized for use by teachers. "So, the essence is understanding AI, ethically and responsibly, with materials that are inclusive for all," said Ismunandar.
From an academic perspective, Irini Nalis-Neuner, a postdoctoral researcher at the Christian Doppler Laboratory for Recommender Systems , emphasized the importance of trust in the context of technology and human interaction. She emphasized the responsible use of AI and the integration of human values through Digital Humanism to foster trust.
Through this discussion, stakeholders from various fields emphasized the importance of digital education and literacy in rebuilding social trust in the digital world.
