Bogor, 8 September 2026 — The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education (Kemendikdasmen) through the Southeast Asian Regional Center for Tropical Biology (SEAMEO BIOTROP) will hold the 5th International Conference on Tropical Biology (ICTB) 2026 on 5–7 October 2026 at the IPB International Convention Center Bogor, Indonesia.

Carrying the theme " Biodiversity Beyond Boundaries: Advancing Global Education, Bio-Science, and Sustainable Landscapes " with four sub-themes, namely Biodiversity Education through Geoparks, National Parks, and Landscape-Based Learning Systems; Sustainable Management of Sub-optimal Lands and Post-Mining Landscapes; Nature-Based Livelihoods ; and Biotechnology for Biodiversity, Environment, and Climate Change , ICTB 2026 is expected to be a forum for researchers, academics, educators, practitioners, students, policymakers, and stakeholders to share research results, build networks and collaborations, and strengthen the development of science and sustainable biodiversity management.

SEAMEO BIOTROP Director Edi Santosa stated that biodiversity challenges require an approach that transcends both disciplinary and regional boundaries. "Biodiversity knows no administrative boundaries. Therefore, strengthening collaboration in research, education, and innovation is crucial to generating knowledge that can support sustainable biological resource management."

Encouraging Dissemination and Publication of Research Results

ICTB 2026 also offers publication opportunities for researchers and academics. Papers that meet the requirements and pass the selection and peer review process have the opportunity to be published in Scopus-indexed proceedings, including the IOP Conference Series: Earth and Environmental Science , or in Scopus-indexed international journals partnering with ICTB 2026, in accordance with the terms and editorial policies of each publisher. The ICTB 2026 Call for Abstracts is still open until September 30, 2026, so researchers and academics from Indonesia and abroad still have the opportunity to participate and disseminate their research results through this international forum.

"Through ICTB, we want to not only provide a space for presenting research results, but also open up opportunities for the resulting knowledge to be documented and disseminated through scientific publications that have a wider reach," said Prof. Dr. Edi Santosa.

Furthermore, Dr. Doni Yusri, Deputy Director of Programs, added, "Biodiversity knows no administrative boundaries or scientific disciplines. Through ICTB 2026, we want to provide a space for researchers, academics, educators, practitioners, and stakeholders to share knowledge, disseminate research results, build networks, and strengthen collaboration. More than just a scientific forum, ICTB is expected to bridge research, education, innovation, and policy, so that knowledge about biodiversity can make a broader contribution to environmental management and sustainable development."

Presenting National and International Perspectives

ICTB 2026 also invited a number of national and international figures as keynote speakers who are expected to provide strategic perspectives on biodiversity, climate change, sustainable landscape management, and the use of biodiversity to support sustainable development.

Keynote speakers include Abdul Mu'ti, Minister of Primary and Secondary Education of the Republic of Indonesia; Mohammad Jumhur Hidayat, Minister of Environment; Arif Satria, Head of the National Research and Innovation Agency (BRIN); Dedi Mulyadi, Governor of West Java; Professor Piers Forster of the University of Leeds; Andrew Bovarnick of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP); and Karen Sack of the Ocean Risk and Resilience Action Alliance.

Strengthening Regional Cooperation

The 2026 ICTB is part of the Ministry of Education and Culture's (Kemendikbud) efforts, through SEAMEO BIOTROP, to strengthen regional cooperation in tropical biology, biodiversity, education, and the environment. As one of SEAMEO's regional centers in Indonesia, SEAMEO BIOTROP plays a role in promoting capacity development, research, education, and knowledge exchange related to tropical biodiversity and the environment.

Through ICTB 2026, research findings and experiences from various countries are expected to not only expand academic networks but also open up new collaboration opportunities and strengthen the links between research, education, innovation, and policy to support biodiversity management and sustainable development.
